Fun Facts/Notes: 

• Did take the title for something this season. Not the greatest title. Actually an unfortunate one with the fantasy gods not on the Freak Squad’s side, as he had the most key injuries of the season, with six. 
• Scheduling not being very kind early on, as Josh T. would face all four eventual playoff teams in his first four weeks… 
• Looking at his team after the draft with players on the squad such as, Stephen Curry, Victor Oladipo, Kyle Kuzma, Marc Gasol, Chris Paul, Myles Turner, Steven Adams, Lauri Markkanen, you’d say this team isn’t the ninth worst team finishing in 2019, right? 
• To that, I’d say in Fantasy Basketball, it is hard to hang onto injured players for long stretches of time, especially with no IR spot and a four man bench. It showed a bit early on, in weeks 1-8, going 14-49-1. 
• Josh T was hanging onto Lauri Markannen, Gary Harris, DeMarcus Cousins, at random points during that eight week stretch, and by that point, minds well pull of a trade to get Cousins and minds well continue to hang onto Markannen and play for next year, collecting assets/possible keepers for the future. 
• Of course, as of writing the Freak Squad’s fun facts, DeMarcus Cousins decides to come up lame in game 2 of the 1st round playoffs, but Theriault still has a plethora of great possible keepers for next season.

• New addition to the Men’s League and was handed a tough task of being slightly in the same boat as Josh T. with all those injuries shown above. Five total in fact, and to two of his studs and keepers. 
• Was treading water and hanging around early in the first few weeks of the season as we saw Alex S. sitting 33-30-1 in the first eight weeks of the season and tied with Jon D. in 5th place. 
• After those first eight weeks, is when Anthony Davis’ probable reported tags before each game would turn into out of the blue ‘OUT’ 10 minutes before tip off, which had to have been frustrating. 
• Team name representing as we saw Alex S. tally together the second most 4-4-0 this year with six weeks of mediocrity.

Fun Facts/Notes: 

• Not sure if it was the call out in the Fantasy Baseball write up about surprisingly seeing Alex B. not make on single trade, but we end up getting six classic Burg trades. I’d say, he may have been on the wrong side of the first three, but those last three. Winners to me, including the last one of the year, made by yours truly. Embarrassing one on my part. 
• Making it a staple it seems like thus far in these fun facts, after the first eight weeks of the season, we saw The Lion King roaring in at 37-26-1 and sitting in 2nd. What really did The Lion King in, other than Scar and the Hyenas? 
• Losing two of your first few picks for multiple weeks in this format and in Fantasy Basketball, is such a dagger. It had me thinking on whether or not it is better to lose your star for a whole season, halfway through the year after suffering injury, or to have your star be out for a month? It is always brutal having your stud go down for the year. But you aren’t faced with a decision really, as he is an automatic cut, if you want to win now and he isn’t a must hold in terms of a keeper for the following season. Yes, you are losing his consistent stats the rest of the way, but at least you aren’t strapped with one less roster spot basically, not contributing at all. Anyways, Alex B. lost arguably his top two fantasy players, in LeBron James and Clint Capela, unfortunately at the same point in the season. 
• Clint Capela was reported to be out 4-6 weeks on January 14th and LeBron James had a more blurry report of how long he’d be out. In terms of possible cuts, LeBron I would say was a hold, but you could have made the argument to cut Capela given the timetable and where Alex had a chance to make a run for a playoff spot. I would have held onto him like Alex did however, as he basically got identical stats from Capela’s replacement actually on the Rockets, in Kenneth Faried, minus the blocks. The All star break was coming up as well, so I understood the hold on Capela. 
• All in all, I think Alex B. season was unfortunately in the hands of the injury gods and they were not in his favor, as we saw The Lion King stumble down the stretch with a record of 13-35-0 in the final six weeks of the season.

I was a bit nervous as I know I’ve seen Ben make crazy runs at the end and sneak his way into the playoffs and win the whole thing. 
• Unfortunately, those last three weeks weren’t all that kind to Ben as he went 5-19 combined and was on the outside looking in. The schedule wasn’t too kind either as he had to face three eventual playoff teams during that run as well. 
• Only team to carry a player who did not play one single game this season, in Kristaps Porzingis. Props to Ben for being able to put together a team who was a three week run away from getting his way into the playoffs. 
• Reviewing every team this year, this one had to be the oddest one, as Ben is usually very active on the waiver wire. He ended up making the fewest moves in the league this year, with three. He carried a player all year long who logged zero minutes and was again, a three week run away from getting into the playoffs. Very, very strange. 
• My answer would be looking at his draft and how solid it was. Klay Thompson (4th round) Trae Young (5th round) D’Angelo Russell (9th round)
• To me, has the greatest possible keepers for next season in my eyes. Never a bad thing to have all options, but that’ll be a tough call for Ben and beyond curious on the decision!

• Similar to my comments on Ben’s squad, Joey was a three week stretch away from getting his squad into the postseason, but was unfortunately, the fox said no for this season… 
• Really was fortunate on the injury front with what I was able to gather, in that John Collins was the only unhealthy boy to miss time for the Fox squad. While it was 21 total games to one of his higher draft picks, Joey was able to at least plan for not having Collins to start the year as he was already reportedly going to be out to start the year. 
• Not so battle tested, as Joey beat up on the non playoff teams to pad that solid record of his as he went 48-29-2 against the non playoff teams. 
• In my opinion, had one of the best key pickups this season which was the JaVale McGee pickup on October 24. Joey held him until January 9th, as we saw him tire there in the middle part of the season and get less minutes. But from October 24-January 9, here are Mr. McGee’s stats; 11.2 PTS, 6.8 REB, 2.3 BLK on 60.3 FG%. I’d say that was able to help fill the void of the missed time from John Collins. 
• Looking at Joey’s team from the beginning to seasons end, he kept his core pieces all year and felt he had one of the deepest, complete and balanced rosters. If Brogdon and Rose were both healthy and the season started today, I think Joey would not have that definite streamer roster spot to play with each week. To me, he’d have two ‘maybe’s’ in that regard, who’d be, Derrick White and Bobby Portis. Maybe Enes Kanter depending on where he’d land during the offseason.

Fun Facts/Notes: 

• Ian started out this season stiff arming goddamn babies as he went 43-20-1 through the first eight weeks of the season and really didn’t slow down much at all this season. 
• While Alex S. and Josh T. had the most injuries this season, Ian had by far, the worst luck when it came to missed time to absolute stars. I mean, having John Wall get injured early on in the season and only give Ian four and a half weeks worth of production is beyond brutal. On top of that, having Kawhi miss 22 games spread throughout the season. 
• But, having Jrue Holiday, one of the more underrated players this season in fantasy to miss 15 games has to be right there with Wall being out for the season. Just in large part to the timing of the injury and timetable from reports. Holiday suffered the injury on March 7th and was reportedly out ‘at least a week’ With that report, Holiday would be back at the very latest around the second week of round one of the playoffs. The following reports continued to be day-to-day. With minutes being so crucial in Fantasy basketball and the playoffs, not having Jrue Holiday’s production and burning a roster spot basically was what did Ian in during the playoffs. 
• Crazy to think about if Ian never made that trade with Josh T after the draft, we could have seen a lineup featuring the likes of Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, Stephen Curry, Lauri Markkanen, Jrue Holiday, Paul Millsap and Lou Williams.

• Once again, takes the crown of most trades in a season. By a goddamn MILE. 12. Count them, 12 total trades! Could also make the argument that Jon could have won the majority, if not them all. 
• In 3 of the 12 trades, Jon received players that he prior shipped off his squad as well. Lonzo Ball, Nicolas Batum and Kyle Lowry. 
• What I enjoy most is looking back at each team after the conclusion of the draft and looking at their team at seasons end. Jon’s is always the most fascinating. Jon had just one player who stuck on his team from start to finish and that player was James Harden. While he did have Kyle Lowry to start the year and to finish, he was traded midseason and reacquired. 
• After the week eight point in the season, Jon was on the outside looking in at the playoffs as he was tied for 5th. Only one game back from 4th and really, by that point, Ian was the only team who was far from the pack. Jon went on an absolute tear from weeks 9-20, as we saw him take an L just once during that run. He also in nine of those weeks, won his matchup with six or more categories. Wasn’t just winning them, he was dominating them. 
• Through weeks 9-20, Jon’s record was 71-22-0. Unbelievable stretch that was, which led him to being the regular season champ. This was absolutely due to the fact of all his trades and successful ones. In Fantasy, you try and put together the best squad possibly and I believe Jon did that. Once you get into the playoffs, anything can really happen. Jon had many key players out and not get minutes from his studs which to me, is the most frustrating thing about Fantasy for sure.

• Not very similar to brother Jon, Mike tends to stick with players longer and play a consistent type of Fantasy game. Of Mike’s first five draft picks, he stuck on his team from start to finish. 
• In large part to Mike making a run and getting to the finals, his draft was pretty darn good with his value picks of Bradley Beal in the 3rd, Blake Griffin in the 4th, Willie Cauley-Stein in the 6th and D.J. Augustin in the 13th. Combine that with some big time pickups and you got things cooking. 
• Tying this with my recent point, Montreal Harrell could quite possibly have been the best free agent pickup of the season in terms of the amount of production and longevity of his production that he provided for Mike. Mike had him all year long from October 17 to the final day. Was a huge get. 
• Mike really didn’t have a crazy couple of weeks to garner finishing with the 3rd best record. Seemed to have stayed consistent throughout the entire year. Did ramp things up a bit heading into the playoffs going 20-11-1, which was solid and enough to hold off Joey and Ben from sneaky in. 
• I think the turning point for Mike was week 12 when he took down Josh Bragg, 8-0-0 and lost one matchup from that point forward and stayed real consistent as well. I mention that week, not only sweeping in all eight categories, but we also saw John Wall go down and was ruled out for the remainder of the season the week prior.

• The John Wall injury forward, Mike’s team turned from being a contender to the best team in the league in my opinion. Just basing things off the player rater of the 2019 season, Mike had three top 10 Fantasy players on his roster, all healthy, heading into the playoffs, in Karl-Anthony Towns, Damian Lilliard and Bradley Beal. I’ll get more into talking about the playoffs next, but needed to give props to Mike for putting together a really consistent and solid year!

• Always a bit odd doing my own fun facts, but how about we start off with almost blowing up my team with my dumb ass trading away Julius Randle for Ricky Rubio? Now that is fun. I never make many trades throughout a year. Well… trades with me, never really get done I would say. I send a ton, but not many happen. I think the big win of my first deal in acquiring Eric Bledsoe, in the end evened things out after taking an L in the Randle/Rubio deal. 
• All in all, didn’t have too many injuries, other than to Joel Embiid. Did have 40 games missed of Alfred Payton, but was able to stream and make up games while holding onto the Elf. 
• Made the most moves of 133. A bit much and also tells me I have no life! 
• The biggest pivotal moment, that I remember like it was last yesterday, was weeks 13-15. After getting smoked by Jon in week 12, 1-7-0, the standings looking like this.

• Ben had control of that 4th spot and had some huge weeks during the midway point of the season. Weeks 13-15 came around and we saw Joey and Alex B stay pretty solid and continue to hover above .500. But, Ben P went 4-20-0 during that stretch while my squad started to gain some momentum and had three much needed weeks going 22-2-0 and leaped up to that third overall spot. Those three weeks were beyond crucial.

Felt this matchup went as many would have expected and why I think two week matchups in Fantasy playoffs are the best format, as the best team should win in Fantasy. In this case, I think Ian’s injuries that occurred early on in the season and even during this series, caught up to the squad and fell just short. Actually did not even realize at the time, that we had two categories tied by weeks end and how damn close it was! Crazy to think that if Jrue Holiday were to have been healthy for this one or a few more pickups on Ian’s side, than he could have snuck away with the W. At the same time, we could have seen Mike match Ian with pickups if he were to have seen Ian make some streaming additions throughout the week. All in all, was a pretty intense one! Crazy to also think that it came down to the last game of the night between the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers. An absolutely meaningless game for most. An absolutely meaningful game for some. Lets take a look.

We have Ian down entering the 4th quarter and still to play, he has JaVale McGee and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, while Mike has Willie Cauley-Stein. Before you ask or go check yourself to see who would win the tiebreaker. Ian had beaten Mike in both of their matchups during the regular season, so if this matchup ended 4-4-0, Ian would have come out on top. Looking at this score and the players who each team has left entering the 4th, I would have probably leaned towards Mike as the two categories he had to hold off were REB and STL. Now, if I were to have told you that the Kings decided to sub out Willie Cauley-Stein at the six minute mark in the 3rd quarter and he never saw the floor the rest of the game, you’d think Mike would be huddled in a damn corner and watching every single play-by-play coming through. So basically Mike has no one left and Ian has JaVale McGee who ends up seeing all 12 minutes in the 4th, with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope seeing roughly six minutes in the 4th. If I were getting those minutes from Pope and McGee and all they needed to combine for were six rebounds and 2 steals, I would have liked my chances with the rebounds. Steals are probably a toss up. In the end, we see Mike barely hang on, but that game had to have been fun to watch if you were part of this matchup!

I am always nervous when my teams reach the playoffs and was even more on the edge of my seat setting my lineups each and every day as Jon, by the end of the season had the better roster from top to bottom. But, once we get into the playoffs, anything can happen and by the luck of the ole irish, we had some crazy things happen. I may have been caught up in the week and more focused on my squad more than anything. I knew, that Jon had a few of his star players sit out and miss games. I didn’t realize how many were missed in total, along with the fact that, it seemed like all of his players, when they did suit up, underperformed, big time. It is unbelievable looking at the totals for the two week matchup here. Jon had just one player score over 100 points. One. Now, that player ended up having probably the best two week stretch in Fantasy, in James Harden. But nevertheless, he got just three games from Kyle Lowry, and in all three, he reached the 30 minute mark, just once as the Raptors coasted down the stretch. Only had five games from Kevin Durant and eclipsed 20 points in just two of his five games. It really shows up also when looking below at Jon having just two guys I was able to identify in having an above average two week total stretch. You could also say that me putting Domantas Sabonis on the list is also a stretch as he really had an average to solid week. Fantasy playoffs can be so frustrating and can only imagine if I were Jon, I would have absolutely freaked. Dominated the league in trades and making moves. Set his team up for the postseason and just did not get the luck of total games and minutes from his studs. I have always said, the better team should win and in this case, it unfortunately did not go that way. 

In terms of my team, I was able to catch some breaks, with cashing in big time for holding onto Elfrid Payton all year, as Jrue Holiday went down right before the Fantasy playoffs and Payton received a ton of run down the final weeks of the season. The Elf played a total of six games and in four of them, he record a triple double. His other two games, were actually duds, but he deserved recognition and I would go as far to say that he was my MVP of this matchup, as he far beyond outperformed what I thought I was going to get in terms of production. Would also say that his production ended up making up for two missed games from the Greek Freak as well. For me, the loss of CJ McCollum in my mind wasn’t a huge deal to my team, as the structure of my team didn’t revolve around scoring or 3PM. 

The basis and summary of the matchup basically came down to my studs playing and performing when on the court and Jon having a few extra studs miss games and also have many guys underperform.

Still unsure as to how I won this one against Mike as his team was lalaLOADED. If you were to have told me at the beginning of the week the following things would happen, I would have said, bring out the brooms for 8-0-0 sweep. 

• Mike would have 82 more total minutes after two and a half weeks than me. 
• I’d have a combined, 10 games missed from Giannis, Embiid and Simmons. 
• Lilliard and Beal would play a combined 17 games between the two of them. 
• Mike would make 16/17 matchup moves during the finals period. 

Think the Fantasy gods were truly just on my side this Basketball season as I think Mike and Jon had the two best Fantasy rosters by seasons end. My only shot I felt against Mike was making all 17 moves and stream the hell outta these two and a half weeks and make sure that each move counted. Mike ended up making 16/17 moves in the end and still, it is unbelievable, somehow the process came through. I think looking into the matchup more in depth, to me, the deciding factor was based off of depth and production from streamers.

I think in the end, my team was built to dominate in four categories. Rebounds, assists, blocks and field goal percentage. My main goal was to stream for steals and points to pick up that 5th and elusive category to win each week. I think that is why you saw my team sitting in the 4th seed as I never won many weeks 8-0-0 or 7-1-0. I also would never lose a week without winning at least two of those categories. I think that is what this matchup with Mike came down to, is being able to control those four categories with my stars and then stream to try and pick up either steals or points along the way. By the end of the season, I felt steals was a category that I was close to picking up each and every week and points, not so much after the swap of Randle for Rubio. Looking at the total production from Mike and I’s streamers by the end of the week, Mike actually out streamed me in steals as he had a two steal advantage with his pickups, but my guys buckled down when it mattered most it seemed.
